How much does therapy cost?

The fee for a 50-minute session is $90. I accept cash, checks, and most major credit cards. I provide counseling on a fee-for-service basis and am an Out-of-Network Provider for most insurance companies. Many healthcare plans cover treatment for emotional issues/concerns and mental disorders; plans vary widely.

What should I expect in the first session?

The first session generally consists of you (and your partner or family members, if applicable) telling your story of why you are seeking counseling. I will ask several questions throughout this first session to help me better understand your situation. I will explore your strengths, your goals, and your challenges. From there, we will work together to develop a direction and approach that will best assist you in reaching your counseling goals.

Does therapy work?

Yes. Research supports the assertion that therapy works for most clients. In fact, recent research suggests that the average person receiving therapy is significantly better off than 84% of those who don’t seek treatment, and that treatment gains are generally sustained over time.

Therapy didn't work before; why try it again?

Sometimes the chemistry between the therapist and client, or the therapeutic modality being used, just isn't a good fit. Just as you sometimes have to switch medication, you may need to switch therapists or treatment modalities to achieve success. Therapy works best when you are open to it and are willing to participate in your own healing.
